Nursery and Playgroup Education
Over the past several years we have considered the various differing methods of childcare and have chosen those aspects which we felt were most appropriate to St George’s. By combining these with OFSTED’s Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum we feel that we are offering the best start possible for your child when he/she prepares for school. Nursery and Playgroup Education Each child’s individual developmental progress is recorded and cross-referenced to the curriculum. Yearly, termly, monthly and weekly curriculum plans are prepared which include several different topics and cover all areas of learning. Each group of children occupy their own room/s within the project as well as having the use of our own playground, garden “Den” and the local parks. Trips are organised to theatres, strawberry picking, to visit Father Christmas, taking harvest festival goods and carol singing at a local old people’s home and various trips out in the summer. We aim to stimulate and teach your children both within and outside the nursery walls. All our toys are specially selected for play value and for durability and safety and we continually update our selection. Since September 2008 the nursery has been following the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and standards set by the Department for Education and Skills This curriculum will continue on into the children’s first year during infant school. The new Early Years Foundation Stage document is divided into four themes, A Unique Child Positive relationships Enabling Environments and Learning and Development. These four themes underpin effective practice in care, development and learning of young children. The children will be given the chance and be encouraged to participate in planned and self chosen activities that cover all the six areas of learning. • Personal, social and emotional development • Communication, language and literacy • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy • Knowledge and understanding of the world • Physical development • Creative development. |
